Digital Signage Content

From 2012-2014 I was pursuing a master's degree in Public Communication & Technology at Colorado State University. During my graduate work I had an assistantship with Housing & Dining Services. I taught myself how to use the Four Winds Interactive digital signage software, which led to the creation of my full-time Web & Multimedia Coordinator position

During my 4+ years with Housing & Dining Services, I managed a network of 50+ digital signs and created the content for those signs.

Creating Movement

With digital signage, movement is a key component to creating effective content. With only seconds to attract the attention of people walking by a sign, movement is helpful in engaging with those people.

The Spring Break informational sign below, is a great example of how I used a subtle video as a background to incorporate movement. The flowing of the stream even helps draw the eye to the call to action, getting students to go to the spring break website for more information

HTML, CSS, JavaScript

The Four Winds technology allowed me to incorporate HTML onto the signs. By creating single-page web applications I was able to create dynamic content to include on the digital signs

The Countdown clock shown below was a project I worked with my supervisor on. We noticed on social media that new first-year students were counting down the days to move in. We took this opportunity to develop a compelling video that incorporated a countdown clock and displayed it on the digital signs at Orientation. The goal was to increase that excitement about move in!

We built the video using Final Cut and I used HTML, CSS and JavaScript to build the finished product.

Video Campaigns

Live On was a huge campaign that our department did every year to encourage current residents to live on campus again next year. We developed a video campaign that was used on digital signs and social media for this campaign. Short micro-videos that tell a story are a great way to attract attention and create a call to action.

Using footage from our hall videos, we used real students to ask the question what will you find? That is what will you find if you Live On next year?

The video was a huge hit on social media and no doubt exposed students who saw it on the digital signs to the possiblity of living on campus again.
